Need some fresh juicing inspiration? Check out these delicious juicer recipes!

Are you searching for new juicer recipes to spark some inspiration? Want to learn more about juicing for health?

I first started juicing about 2 years ago, but it has since become one of my healthiest habits! Last year, I watched an inspiring documentary called Fat Sick & Nearly Dead, directed by a man named Joe Cross who started the film with a chronic illness and a lot of extra weight. He set out on a journey to health, dedicating himself to a 60-day liquid fast. For 2 full months, Joe drank all of his fresh fruits and vegetables and ate nothing else...and his results were absolutely phenomenal!

If you've watched the Joe Cross documentary, Fat Sick & Nearly Dead, you may be wondering which extractor he uses. I get asked this question a lot! Although he never mentions the model that he uses, we know it's a Breville and it looks like it is most likely the Breville JE98XL.

Fruit Juices

See all 14 photos

Fresh tropical fruit is so refreshing first thing in the morning and will give you tons of energy to begin your day! This is a great one to help you get started if you are new to the practice. It is full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to give you a mighty punch that goes right along with your new health kick!

If you're not convinced about juicing after trying a glass of this fresh tropical fruit juice, you just might need to try another glass!

This recipe makes more than one glass, depending on how large of a glass you use. I like a big glass of juice, especially first thing in the morning, and I still get 2 servings out of this. You might even be able to make it into 3 small share it or save the rest for later!

  • Prep time:
  • Ready in:
  • Yields: 2

  • 1 Kiwi - Peeled
  • 6 Strawberries - Medium
  • 1 Orange or 2 Clementines - Peeled
  • 1/2 Mango - Peeled and Sliced
  • 1 cup Pineapple Chunks - Fresh
  • 1/4 cup Coconut Water - Fresh or Canned

    1. Prepare fruit and process in your extractor. Stir in the coconut water. Drink and enjoy!
    2. So easy and super delicious!

    2. Very Berry Elixir - This one's for your sweet tooth!

This is my favorite juicer recipe to have for a sweet treat. I love to make it in the afternoon when I get a bit of a sugar craving. I add some agave nectar to the juice to sweeten it up a bit. Agave nectar is a little like honey, but it comes from a vegetable source...interestingly enough, the same plant tequila is made from! It has many healthy benefits on its own, including a low glycemic index to prevent a "spike" in blood sugar levels. It is a wonderful way to sweeten teas and juices...and I even use it in some of my baking and my Healthy Homemade Granola Bars!

Read more about the health benefits of agave nectar here.

This recipe makes at least 2 large glasses of juice...Share and enjoy!

P.S. I've started leaving the agave nectar out of this juice because my taste buds have adjusted and I don't need the extra sweetness. You might find that you'll need to do the same, especially if you are using sweet berries.

    • Prep time:
    • Ready in:
    • Yields: 2

    • 1 cup Strawberries - hulled
    • 1 cup Raspberries
    • 1/2 cup Blackberries
    • 1/2 cup Blueberries
    • 1 Cucumber - whole
    • 1 Tbsp. Agave Nectar

      1. Process the fruits and the cucumber in your extractor. Pour into a glass and stir in the agave nectar (optional). Drink up!

      3. Citrus Surprise with Ginger

This one is like liquid gold and is full of Vitamin C...a wonderful way to boost your immune syste and perfect for flu and cold season! The addition of ginger not only adds a wonderful surprise flavor, but it can help ease nausea, reduce pain and inflammation, and even relieve migraines. Ginger also aids in strengthening the immune system...working right along with the vitamin C from the citrus!

Ginger is a very strong-tasting root and you really don't need a lot to get the healthy benefits and the punch of flavor!

        Heart Healthy Vegetable Juice

        4. Heart Healthy Vegetable

Are you a fan of V-8? You can make your own at home! Here are simple instructions for getting the nutrients from 8 key sources for an all-around healthy choice!

Not being a huge fan of vegetables, this one took a few times for me to start enjoying...but now I really look forward to it! It makes me feel like I have infused my body with good stuff...that is a great feeling!

If you don't enjoy this at first, give it a few tries. Just think about not having to eat your veggies - you can drink them instead!

I get a different amount of juice every time I make this basically just depends on the size of the tomatoes and cucumber. You should get 1 to 2 glasses from this recipe.

        • Prep time:
        • Ready in:
        • Yields: 1-2

        • 2 Tomatoes - Medium (I like Roma tomatoes best!)
        • 1 Stalk of Celery
        • 1 Carrot - Large
        • 1 Cup Broccoli
        • 1 Cucumber
        • 1/2 Lemon - Peeled
        • 1 Garlic Clove

          1. Simple - Run it all through the juicer and drink! Isn't this fun and easy?

          5. Leafy Green Power Juice

I love to drink my greens because I definitely don't eat enough salads to get the incredible health benefits of the leafy greens. Plus, there is no fruit to peel or slice in this recipe...everything is thrown into the appliance whole! Super fast and easy!

If a pure vegetable juice is a little too hardcore for you, the apples in this recipe sweeten up the greens and make it more palatable.

          Cook Time

          Prep Time:

          Total Time:

          Serves: 1

          • Kale
          • Spinach
          • Collard Greens
          • Chard
          • Sprouts
          • ...even wild Dandelion greens!
          • 1 Apple

            1. I do not use the same ingredients every time I make a Leafy Green Power Juice. Instead, I throw in a combination of whatever lettuces I have in the fridge and an apple. The ingredients above are just suggestions for healthy dark greens to use for your green juice.
            2. If you prefer to drink a sweeter juice, use 2 apples to create a sweet, fruity base and then add greens until you have enough juice for a whole glass. Carrots can also be used to sweeten up greens...and add even more incredibly healthy nutrients!
            3. Watch the YouTube video below to see how Joe Cross from Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead makes his Mean Green Juice.

Would You Help Other Readers Decide Which Extractor to Buy?

Now that you've found some healthy juicing recipes, please tell us about your favorite juicer!

I used a "hand-me-down" extractor that was on it's last leg for about 6 months while I saved up to buy a new one...and I wanted to get the best value for my money. At first, I didn't want to spend more than $200, but I wanted it to be the highest quality I could get in my price range.

A lot of juicers were recommended to me when I was searching, but I actually ended up splurging on the Breville BJS600XL Fountain Crush Masticating Slow Juicer because I wanted the slow, masticating action that squeezes the most juice out of your produce...fruits and veggies are getting expensive, after all!

No matter what your price range is, you can find one that will work for you. Check out a couple of options below.

And if you are experienced, please let us know which one is your favorite!

If you came here looking for a recommendation, please be sure to read the reviews below. Readers have left some very helpful comments! And if you have experience with a juice extractor, please consider leaving your own review here!

Fantastic Article!! Very informative and I loved that documentary! I don't currently juice (I drink all my veges raw and in smoothies now!) but when I was, I used the Juiceman Juicer. Forget which model but it is still going strong 20 yrs later. Might check out that brand. :)

I own the Breville and I love it. It is powerful and make juicing so quick and easy. The only downside is it is a bit time consuming to clean, but well worth it for the health benefits and the taste.

I wish I had a juicer. We could do fruit that grows in trees, but since they use human fertilizer here we don't eat any vegetables raw, everything has to be cooked. One of the drawbacks of not being in the US... still, this is a great idea.

I recently got the smaller Breville juicer and put it to the test. 2 of us juice twice a day and that Breville has remained a champ! My niece has a Jack LaLanne and hates it! So my recommendation is Breville.

Most of the above juicers heat the juice to much in my opinion. I prefer the Green Star twin gear juicers which give a great juice with extremely dry pulp while keeping maximum nutrition in the juice.

We use Omega juicer (finally on daily basis) and it was one of the best shopping decisions we've ever made. I'm afraid I can't judge these juicers here but then again it's not so important. The most important part is to make a decision of juicing every single day for your own good. Great lens and recipes:)

This is a GREAT lens! I feel like you just saved me $10. That is the price of a juicing recipe book down at Barnes & Noble. Bookmarked, liked, and + Pocketed this lens!

I have the Warning Pro 850 Watt juicer- I bought it maybe a year and 1/2 ago. I'm now just wiping off the dust it collected and getting into using it. So far I'm loving it. It's easy- clean up isn't bad- but I read what you said about the pulp still having a lot of juice in it. I am noticing that my pulp has some juice still in it- more with juicer foods- than the greens. But, I don't know if any other juicer can do a better job. I watched Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead twice, and I don't remember him pulling out the pulp and showing it was dry...he also juiced mostly greens verses fruits like pineapple or grapefruit (great together I might add) Let us know which one you decide on and how it works.

We are using the Jack Lallane power juice. Love it. Wish it had a splash guard by the spout. But works great and takes least than 6 minutes to clean

            anonymous 2 years ago

I had a Jack Lalane juicer. it was not very powerful, clogged up constantly and the pulp was very wet indicating much of the juice and nutrients were not being extracted. I would not recommend anyone to buy one. Put that money toward a Brevelle or an Omega 8004 which has a 15 yr warranty.

I have the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth and I love it for carrot-apple-celery-cucumber type things, almost always with 1/4 of an organic lemon. It isn't quite as great on things like kale, but I just do them on different days in my vitamix blender. Or I wrap them up tight and do a few in my BigMouth juicer.

I recently just purchased a Jack Lalanne juicer for $99.99. I love it!! The only thing I wish it came with that it didn't (but some models do) is a brush for cleaning it. I've found that juicing isn't just a commitment when it comes to your health but also when it comes to cleaning that sucker!! Everything is easy to clean except for the strainer..I found that using an orange stick from a manicure set ( new of course) is helpful. Also, if I can't clean it right away I just let it soak in the sink so that it doesn't get crusty. I've been told that Kale will dull my juicer so I haven't used it, is this true? Also, any thoughts on getting wheat grass and spinach through?? I'm new to the juicing thing and I was a little disappointed when I finally got wheat grass, cut it, threw in the juicer and watched it get spit out the pulp trap like a lawnmower;)

I have a Jack LaLanne Power Juicer - not the Pro stainless steel model, just the plain plastic one. Have only had it one week but so far seems to be perfectly fine. Has a powerful enough motor, strong share blade, and will juice about 4 cups juice at one time, more or less depending on how much pulp there is. Used it twice a day since we got it and it makes great juice and judging from the pulp left over really extracts the juice well.

Just got the Breville Ikon, and have to say, we absolutely love this machine. Even our old Champion Household workhorse doesn't hold a candle to the juice extraction capabilities and clean, easy use of the Breville. Worth every penny! It takes a little while to figure out the multi-speed factor (ie what speeds to use for optimal extraction depending on the fruit/veg) but it's a fabulous feature to have since you can get the most possible out of *everything* you juice.

Finally the doctors had to remover my large colon due to colitis but I think the actual diagnosis should have been gluttony, a sedintary lifestyle and improper diet. I wish I had seen your movie years ago. I have lost 40 pounds just by controling calories and amounts but I am still eating in an imbalanced way. I still have ten to go. I am off to buy a Juicer this AM. Although I am losing weight, it is the other benefits I want from the juice. I wanted to thank you for producing the movie and for your inspiration. Bill

hello everyone.. i just purchased the Hamilton Beach Big mouth pro and for only 69.99 plus tax, i can say it stands up with the omegas and the Brevilles.

i have owned an Omega before, which i gave to my mother and she loved it. But due to money being tight i opted for the Hamilton Beach which i purchased at Kmart of all places. So far it stands up to all the big boys... lots of juice.. the only draw back is it is a bit noisy. But i dont mind since it was $220 less than than my original omega.

@anonymous: I bought the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro on Walmart's website using site to store- or directly to your house. It's rollback price was $59.99. I have used it 5 times today and love it !!! I didn't think it was too loud, but I have nothing to compare it to. Cleaned up pretty good and I would recommend using a Walmart bag to line the waste can. ( You have to use a Walmart bag since you bought it at Walmart.) : D The waste wasn't too dry, but it wasn't juicy either. I think it will be WONDERFUL for me !!!!!!!!!!!

            anonymous 2 years ago

Centrifugal force juicers (like the Jack Lalanne above) is one of the WORST juicers you can purchase. The movement creates friction, therefore heat, which kills much of the enzymes in the fruits and vegetables, therefore the juice you end up drinking has less than optimal nutrition. The BEST kind to get are the single gear types, that do not create heat and press the veggies more than grinds them. A good example is the Omega 8500. It's recommended by a wide range of doctors, including the late Dr. Gerson that developed a cancer cure that used juicing as its primary treatment!

hi - I'm new to juicing and have just discovered I don't have to separate pit and rind from watermelon. Can I assume same for all fruits, veggies such as cantelope, oranges, lemons etc? Will the juicer juice the pits?

            anonymous 2 years ago

I watched Joe Cross' movie about a week ago. Oops, let me back up... About a year and a half ago, I topped the scales at 302 lbs. I'm a 48 year old male who should be around 180 - 190 lbs (a bit over 6' tall). The entire gambit of emotions came over me, depression, guilt, shame, etc., not to mention the obvious poor physical condition I was in. That day I decided I was going on a DIET (oh I hate that word, so much so I soon changed it to calling it a LIVE-IT).

I started by just changing my eating habits, not eating late ate night, smaller portions and "healthier" food, I guess it was the trendy low-card diet, or my version of it at least. I started walking just 20 minutes a day. By the second week, I started to see small results so I really kicked it into high gear and by the end of 5 months I was down to 192. Great, right? Well, somewhat, the problem was that I thought that I could return to normal and almost immediately I started gaining the weight back! At first it was very gradual and I was not concerned, however though I have now reached back to 260 lbs and those "symptoms" of being overweight have returned, I'm lethargic, even small chores seem like huge tasks, and MY THINKING has certainly suffered. That is the part that intrigued me the most about the movie, the thinking clearly and the results Joe (and Phil) had seen thru juicing.

Eager to get started right away, I HAD to purchase a juicer the following day but I too did not want to spend too much. So I researched some models and decided on the Jack Lalanne Pro (I bought it in black at Kohl's for $99.00). It's great, I'm really just started and not drinking solely juice (eat one "good" a day) as I'm afraid of "the first three or four day feeling" that Joe spoke about in the movie. I love the juicer and I'm always looking for new recipes. My only complaint about the juicer is that the spout is very low and only about an 8 to 10 ounce glass fits beneath it. I have a "work-around" but....

Anyway, thank you for the recipes and other postings!!

            anonymous 2 years ago

@anonymous: The Jack Lalanne juicer comes with some good recipes for the pulp. They are in the Internet as well if you search for Lalanne's pulp recipes. Some that seem good and easy are smoothies, sorbet's and Popsicles.

            anonymous 2 years ago

Joe Cross didn't juice for 90 days, it was 60. You may need to watch the movie again and then edit your post.

I changed the order and purchased the lower model, 900 hp and got it in a couple of days. Since then, I've been juicing like crazy and I love it. I even juiced an entire watermelon, seeds and rinds. I always use a base of green veggies, and add one kind of sweet fruit to make it tasty. I've been experimenting and have really enjoyed every juice I made. Now, I'm going to try using the pulp in recipes.

For the last six years I have had a Breville Juice Fountain Elite. I love it. I use the leftover pulp in recipes (soups, sweet breads, sauces). I purchased it to use personally and in the catering business I owned and ran at the time. Prior to that I used a Hamilton for a number of years until finally I upgraded. Before owning a juicer I frequented local health food stores/juice bars for fresh juices for about 8 or 9 years. Right now I own a Waring blender but I would also like to add a Vitamix one day for it's all in one capabilities! Thank for sharing your juicing recipes!

I have a Jack Lalanne Juicer. I like it and we are using it frequently, but it does not handle small items very well. For instance, if I put parsley or cilantro in, much of it shoots it out into the pulp container untouched. Cranberries and cherries also seem to go through without extracting all the juice. I am sticking with it for now, but if I have a chance to purchase another at a good price in the future, I probably will.

Firstly, thank you for the recipes. I like to blend carrot tomato and beetroot. I was told by my doctor a few years ago that beetroot is good for a healthy liver.

We have a Phillips easy clean juicer, and it is really good. Our old juicer was so hard to clean that we stopped using it. The Phillips machine is so simple that we use it several times a day, it takes only a few minutes to clean and reassemble.

I got my Breville JE98XL today. (bought it refurbished for about half the price) It came a day early and looked brand new. It was very easy to clean and put back together. I am new to juicing, so wasn't sure what fruits/veges to put together so I kept the apple juice and celery juice separate, then made a vege mix using kale, spinach, zucinni, carrots, & bell pepper. It tasted nasty, so I added some lemon and ginger, which improved it a lot. I'll experiment and come up with some good stuff. The juicer itself seems awesome! It didn't take long to get everything juiced, and cleanup was a breeze. (I listened to the many reviews I had read where they said to do the cleanup right away) I did "baby" it because some reviews said to go easy, but Ireally didn't go too slow....just didn't push it hard. Overall, I am very happy with this machine and can't wait to see the benefits of changing my diet to daily juices. Prior to this, I ate mostly junk and processed foods....and WAY too much meat, with almost no fruit or veges.

I recently bought a Jack Lalanne juicer from Wal-mart for $99. I had been wanting one for awhile and saw one of the brands I had narrowed it down to, so I stepped up. I love it. It does an awesome job, fairly easy to clean and is very quiet. The one complaint I have is I wish the spout was higher than it is. You can't put a tall cup/glass under it, but I just use the measuring cup that came with it.

            anonymous 22 months ago

I have the Jack Lalane juicer. It's my first juicer and overall i love it, but it has a difficult time with the less "juicy" fruits and veggies--beets, carrots, leafy greens. It stalls up and I have to stop and wait a few minutes to finish

Who on earth won't like fruit juice? As soon as the winter falls and oranges start appearing in market I would bring them home for a glass of orangy. Off topic but I equally love tomato soup... not the juice...

            Thank you :)

We aren't juicers, per se but have a Vitamix and use it every day to make delicious smoothies (1/3 spinach or kale, 1/3 fresh fruit, 1/3 ice) for breakfast. I know a number of people that are apprehensive about investing in a juicer (or Vitamix) because of the cost but the cost of being sick and feeling terrible all the time "costs" much, much more.

I have the Jack Lalanne Ultimate juicer which I bought at Costco for $80. From what I read the only difference in the Ultimate from the Pro is the stainless steel filter. And it appears the Costco model is unique, because the same model is not listed on the site. My aunt, my cousin and I use it, but my aunt and mom also use the Vitamix. The Vitamix is easier to clean and it retains the fiber. The Jack Lalanne is a juice consistency whereas the Vitamix is a smoothie consistency. The Vitamix is also more expensive but my mom did the payment plan through QVC which helped. My aunt prefers different machines for different juices. I prefer the Jack Lalanne and it's very quiet! Placing bags in the canister help to make the cleanup time a snap!

We have owned a Breville BJE510XL Juice Fountain Multi-Speed Juicer a few years now and have never had any problems with it. The juice tastes great from the fresh vegetables. Some of our favorite vegetables to juice include, kale, cucumber, carrots, spinach, apples, celery, beets, also a little bit of lemon or ginger. I look forward to trying the leafy green power juice recipe you have listed above and also some of the citrus or berry juice recipes. Thanks again and Happy Juicing.

I have a Champion Masticating juicer. I love it. A masticating juicer allows you to juice 10-15 lbs. of carrots with or without spinach and beets at a time and you can store the juice in the frig for 2-3 days without loss of enzymes. With a centrifigal juicer, you have to drink the juice right away as alot of the enzymes are lost due to the high rpm spinning.

After reading reviews and watching YouTube videos on the major competition to I chose the champion commercial juicer. Its very durable and I get a very good amount of juice. If you want to juice leafy greens you must intermittently run apples or carrots is the only tip I must mention. Watch the YouTube videos and decide for yourself also note the champion also makes fresh nut butters and homemade healthy ice cream a breeze.

Thanks for the recipes! i was looking for some new ones.

We own a Jack LaLanne and I have to say that we are saving up for a new one ourselves. We started off with a cheapo juicer that wasn't that great. Then someone gave us a Jack LaLanne Power Juicer. I have been very thankful for it and we use it every day right now, but there is a noticeable difference between our pulp and the pulp he shows in the video above. We can literally wring more liquid out of it just by squeezing it in the palm of our hands and my husband is super careful about not pushing anything through very fast when he juices. We could never push our fruits and veggies through as fast as he does in the video or we would lose a lot of our juice. The larger mouth opening is great and it is pretty easy to clean, but if I had the choice between a Breville and a Jack LaLanne, I would choose the Breville personally.

I used to have a (much) older Breville, but it was a pain to clean. Look at the cleaning instructions for any juicer that you are considering -- if they are too complicated or look too time consuming, skip -- it's one big thing that will frustrate you and stop you from using the machine!

            anonymous 20 months ago

I have a twin gear juicer, makes great juice, but cleaning is a chore. wanted something quicker and easier for everyday use and bought the Breville Ikon 5 speed. Pulp is pretty dry, clean up is a breeze! I highly recommend it. Didn't want to spend that much, but they have at Bed Bath and Beyond, so register on website for a 20% coupon, you'll spend the same as for some of the others. Love love love it, with this and my Vitamix, don't really need anything else in my kitchen! One warning - if you make a large quantity of juice at once, check your pulp container about the time you get to 2 quarts juice - you'll prob need to empty. Another cleaning tip, line pulp container with plastic bag, saves washing one piece!

I highly recommend the Omega VRT350 - it's a low speed masticating at a lower speed, which means it doesn't introduced as much oxygenation into your juice as the high-speed centrifugal juicers do. It's also much easier to clean.

I've used it daily for a year now & it's still working & looking just like the first day I got it. Easy to clean & well worth the price. It gobbles even those raw beets & sweet potatoes and keeps on going. I make six juices a day (three for both my husband & I) so it gets a good workout.

I recently bought the BREVILLE JUICE FOUNTAIN ELITE and I love it. So easy to use and the clean up takes less than 5 minutes. I like the fact that the parts are not all plastic and hold up very well under constant use. Worth the extra $100 over the lower priced 900w model just below.

            anonymous 19 months ago

I purchased the Jack LaLanne juicer and it has quickly become my favorite appliance in the kitchen. The juicer is stainless steel and the motor comes with a lifetime garuntee. I juice one large batch a day and pour it from a pitcher as I go. The only thing that does not come with the juicer is a measuing cup to catch the juice, and the user will need to find one at the right height to catch the juice from the pour spout (unless they use a large bowl). I feel this was worth the investment.

            anonymous 19 months ago

I am surprised no one has mentioned that centrifugal juicers such as the Breville and Jack LaLannes cause oxidation and heat the juice killing the enzmes in the juice. The juice has little nutritional value. Search the internet about Centrifugal VS Slow or masticating juicers. I recommend the Omega Vert Slow Juicer. Very easy to use and clean. The juice will keep its nutrional value for up to three days if stored properly. Green Star juicer is also a slow juicer but difficult to push produce into the chute. The Omega Vert or the Hurom Slow juicers will automatically feed produce into the juicer and the self cleaning feature is great by simply pouring water into the juicer. Juicing is great and I highly recommend it. I just hate to see all the work of juicing with centrifugal juicers and not producing a juice with the nutritional value you think you are getting.

@anonymous: Thank you for this info. I'm going to get a juicer and was not sure which one to get. Also I had no idea you could store the juice without losing a ton of the great "stuff." I'm assuming by storing it you're putting it in a sealed container in fridge. Thanks so much for the info! Karen

@anonymous: Yes, veggie juices are better for weight loss. But there are some people who would greatly benefit from any juice at all...the vitamins and nutrients are greatly needed if your diet has been mostly processed food. Fruits are a great way to get started juicing, and then you can gradually add in veggies until you build up to 100% veggie juices. For me, personally, I couldn't do veggies at first...I am a very picky eater and there aren't many veggies I enjoy. I had to build up to it and now I actually enjoy green juices, carrot juice (who knew veggies could be so sweet?) and tomato based juices. Yum! Thanks for your comment! :)

Your cites and videos have been the most comprehensive that I have found. Are there any precautions that an older newbie should keep in mind. Also, I would appreciate your views on blending vs. juicing. Don't have a juicer yet. Been using my blender. Hope I win.

I think its important to buy cheaper first until you are sure you are going to use it and that you are comitted to juicing. Once you are frustrated with the performance of your juicer, then its time to upgrade because you actually use it enough to justify the purchase of the higher end juicers.

            anonymous 18 months ago

Having tried a few juicers, I like the Champion Juicer the best. I've extracted the most liquids out of all produce especially if I run it through a second time. Yes, it does add more air (thus making foam) but that will dissipate and blend well.

I think the Brevilles are the best just due to speed of juicing and cleanup. If you need to spend time chopping up your fruit and veg like you do with a lot of other juicers then the whole process becomes so slow!

Just wanted to note that if you're using a cheap juicer (which wastes) you can save the vegetable pulp and make vegetable broth. Make sure you juice any fruits with your veggies last though.. unless you think fruit flavored vegetable broth is a good idea!

            anonymous 16 months ago

We purchased the Cuisinart CJE-1000 1000-Watt 5-Speed Juice Extractor a couple of weeks ago, and, thus far, it's been great. While it can be a little loud with things like Kale stems, it's not as loud as our food processor when it's grinding cheese. The pulp isn't dusty dry, but it's not wet or mushy--it's dryer than we expected, and we get a good amount of juice out of the things we pop in. Thus far we've done kale, chard, parsley, spinach, apples, carrots, blue, black, rasp, and strawberries, oranges, kiwi, mango, pears, celery, and cukes. I think that's it. It's not fun to clean, but it's also not a huge chore, and many of the parts are top-shelf safe in the dishwasher. Overall, we're happy with it. Someday, we'd like to shoot for a masticating juicer, but those days are a couple years away.

Juicing is something is very powerful & healthy. Glad your lens on this subject is reaching people. My mom bought her machine 39 years ago and she still uses the SAME one!!! I wonder if they make any to last like that anymore! As a child, she made me drink raw beet juice when I had a severely high fever that would not come down. IT WORKED when nothing else would. That's the healing power of raw, fresh juice.

Love your lens. I have been juicing in maintenance mode for over a year now and I absolutely love it. I am actually currently working on a Juicing Lens and Healthy eating for my family so I don't have to send out tons of emails to many different people. Since I thought it would be mutually beneficial to anyone else, I decided to do it in a lens instead of a website. So I will most likely be linking to your lens for recipes and juicer options because I do not plan to delve into that with much detail. I will be talking more about the science of juicing and how different foods effects our bodies.

The Cost of Choosing the Wrong Juicer

              Money Down the Drain!

I started with a hand-me-down machine that did a great job getting the juice out of the produce, but unfortunately it broke down. I wanted to replace it with another high-quality machine, but in the meantime, I've been using a cheap $50 appliance that I bought to "hold me over". Here is what I have learned:

My cheap, low-quality machine gives me serves its purpose. However, produce is expensive! And after I process my fruits and vegetables, the "pulp" that is left behind is soaking wet, still full of liquid! That should be in my glass, not left in the waste receptacle!

If you watch Joe Cross's videos on the page, you'll see that he reaches in and pulls out some of the leftover pulp and it's DRY. This is how a good juicer should work. It should efficiently remove every last drop of moisture from your produce so that it goes into your body instead of the compost.

Buy the highest quality machine you can afford on your budget! Don't settle for the cheapest one you can get at your local big box store. I made this mistake and I feel like I wasted $50...that money could have gone toward a better appliance...and toward the cost of fresh fruits and vegetables that would go much further in a better machine.

              Lesson learned!

              Best Juicers for Beginners

              Don't forget...

     compost your leftover pulp!

(If you don't use it in one of the pulp recipes below!)

              Ideas for Leftover Pulp

What do I do with this stuff?

What To Do With The Leftover Pulp? - Here's A Couple of Great Ideas!

The pulp that is leftover from fruits and vegetables that have been juiced contains all of the fiber from the produce, so don't throw it away! Watch the videos below to get some ideas for how to use the valuable leftovers to make more nutritious treats!

Note: Some of these videos feature baked goods that are high in sugar. You could probably use these ideas as a basis and then substitute healthier ingredients to create healthier treats.

However, every once in awhile, I really enjoy making a sweet treat for the kids, so I might just try out some of these ideas!

Check it out: The last video below is a recipe for making juicer-pulp dog biscuits!

              My #1 Tip:

You won't keep it up if you get tired of the process! Buy an extractor that is easy to disassemble and clean. Make sure you take care of it as soon as you're finished!

Tip: When I first start, I fill my sink with an inch or two of sudsy water. Before I sit down to enjoy, I quickly take the juicer apart and wash up the parts while they are still "wet". If the fibers dry onto the equipment, it can be MUCH more difficult and time-consuming...meaning you will be less likely to keep juicing!

This lens was so convicting! Just last week I looked at my juicer collecting dust in the basement and thought I should start juicing again. Used to juice daily and after watching these videos I am off to the basement to retrieve my juicer and start it up. I prefer a juicer with all stainless steel parts. Many have plastic which is not as durable and can be toxic. Thanks for all the work you did creating this lens!

Fat Sick & Nearly Dead has been creating quite a stir over here in Australia in recent times! It is great to see juicing being more mainstream these days. These recipes do look delicious. I might have to try a few! We juice regularly in our house and currently own three juicers. We have the Green Star Elite twin gear juicer which we use primarily for greens, the Solo Star single auger juicer which we use more for fruit and the Citristar citrus juicer for all our citrus juicing needs. I do tend to blend more than I juice as smoothies are a big part of my diet, but juicing is great too. Great job! :-)

I use a Jack Lalanne juicer and an happy with it. It is hard to find fresh made juice in a grocery store. Most fresh juices are pasteurized (heated).

I've been juicing for 2 wks now. I LOVE it! I was a junk food junkie! It has been so easy! There are so many recipes out there that satisfy all your cravings! I had a Jack La Crap juicer, hated it. Hard to clean, shredded my fingers trying to get the basket off, it didn't process all the ingredients and it leaked like a sive. I then got the Breville Fountain juicer and OMG, my world got a LOT easier. The best part is, easy to clean, no waste and cuts like butter. I put a whole apple, stem, seeds and peel, it gobbled it up in less than a second and so quiet. My Jack La Crap would throw the apple back at you. I had it hit me in the forehead, no joke! :) LOVE MY BREVILLE!!!

What a great looking lens. Juicing is brilliant and so good for you but it is surprising how you get out of the habit. This lens has inspired me to start up again, thanks. I mostly juice vegetables mixed with apples to sweeten. My favourite is slice of cucumber, couple sticks of celery, two apples, knob of ginger and half a lime. You can also feed in some spinach if you fancy. Great tip about cleaning juicer too, clean then drink, thats the way. Happy juicing.

I don't juice, yet! I'm really eager to start and came here to check out some recipes. This is a great resource, thanks. :-)

About wet pulp: I have read that by running the pulp through the juicer you can extract more juice. Have you ever tried that?

              anonymous 2 years ago

I watched, Fat sick and nearly dead on Netflix last weekend and its inspired me to do the same. I'm dreadfully overweight from eating too much crap and no exercise. I need this to help kickstart my new healthy lifestyle. Thanks for the info on this site, it's a great read and it's good to see lots of others are doing the same as me after watching the programme.

I was lucky enough to inherit a Angle cold pressed juice extractor from a deceased estate ( $1,395 priced on the net ) . I know most people cannot afford this but this is truly the Rolls Royce of juicers . Besides being very easy to clean ( fully stainless steel no plastic ) the pulp comes out dry , you can even make different kinds of butter as it will grind seeds & nuts as well ! (just soak them in water overnight ) I made cashew & pastashio yum yum ! You can also make your own Tofu !!!!! Very Impressed

A good juice to cleanse you out of any toxins is made from cabbage, celery, and carrots. My wife used it to clean out her system to discover which foods she was sensitive to. She had to do it for three days, it was a 3 day juice fast, but it worked well.

Did this for 3 weeks and I felt wonderful and had lost weight. I really need to do that again, but it is easier to do it in the summertime. The time when you don't care about having warm food.

@boskoman: Absolutely! I'm not a big veggie fan, either...although juicing has given me a better tolerance for them. :) If you can't drink a straight up green juice, add apple or lemon to sweeten up the taste. I had to do this for awhile...then, I just gradually cut out the fruit a little at a time until I could drink the pure green juice. You can definitely get all of your greens from juicing! :)

It's awesome to see how many people have gone through the "fat, sick, and nearly dead" video. I ended up checking it out and now am juicing as well - and did lose weight fast and kept it off. I'm down 40 pounds. One of my favorite juice recipes is juicing apples and lime together. It ends up being kind of a sweet lemonade. Let me know if you try it out!

I second the fact that you shouldn't be looking at cheap juicers. I purchased one for maybe $50 a few years ago and within 3 months the motor burnt out. Should have paid 2.5 or 3 times what I spent and I would still be using a juicer.

I created a Visual Juicing Recipe book called Faces of Juicing. I played with my food and made faces before I juiced the fruits and vegetables. I have one recipe that taste like watermelon without any watermelon.

              2 Oranges

              1 Zucchini

              1 Apple

              1 Pear

              1 Cucumber

              Makes around 24 ounces.

See the Face I made on the blog here:
